Coved rear seats appeared in all Thunderbirds for 1964, giving a lounge feeling to rear seat passengers. Shown above is Red Vinyl (code 55) in a Rangoon Red Convertible. The center fold-down arm rest was standard, and the optional rear seat radio speaker was located directly above the arm rest. Convertibles had the openings for the speaker even if it wasn't equipped with one. If your pulse quickens while looking at this picture, it's normal. |
||
Note: All trim codes listed on this page in bold denote trim for optional Reclining Passenger Seat with Adjustable Headrest.
(The "A" designation in the trim code has been disputed, and
we are investigating.)
Note: Appointments include the top of the padded instrument panel, radio speaker grille, "coved" section of the instrument panel, and front bucket seat backs. |

Note: Although shown in some photos, the door trim panels on most 1964
Thunderbirds do not have the fingertip insert provision in the armrest
for closing the door. The 1964 Thunderbirds are the only ones in the 1964-1966
series to feature carpeting on the bottom of the door trim panels when
equipped with the White Pearl interior. The Hardtop models strangely enough
also do not feature the Dual-Lens Door Courtesy Lights, which were provided
as standard equipment on Landau and Convertible models.
In order to resolve customer complaints about difficulty closing the doors due to lack of the fingertip insert, a Door Assist Handle was offered for installation by dealers. Seldom used, cars with them today are rare. They took the place of the Thunderbird emblem on Landau door panels, and were color-keyed to match the interior trim. |

This Landau has a Black Vinyl Roof to contrast beautifully with the paint
finish.
|
Wider molding in roof quarter area was exclusive to the 1964 Landau models, and gave them an extra measure
of distinction. This heavier molding would not be used again on future
Landaus.

Note: 1964 Landau models featured a unique, oval-shaped center emblem in
its S-Bars, along with a wider roof side belt molding, that extended from
its base up to the roof side rails. This was the only year this unique
molding and S-Bar with oval center emblem would be used.
