Question 430 mel engine rear main leak

Well I got the engine out again and in the shop that work on it before.He says he want to put a rope seal in the rear main and take out the new rubber seal and put a oil slinger on it.Anyone hear of that ? I went over there the other day and he has not done anything on it yet after 2 weeks.If you read my other post you know what I have been threw on this engine rebuild,it has taken all the fun out of working to restore this 1959 J convertible.

I guess that you'll have to wait and see how the rope seal and slinger works.

Up untill 1940, all there was in the rear was an oil slinger. After that, they used the rope seal untill the 70's.

From what I've read, installing a rope seal is an art that was perfected by the guys working on the assembly line doing it every day, over and over.

Any chance this shop might have damaged or overturned ur crank causing this repeated leak???

I have asked that ,but he says no,but there must be something that is not right.He been in the business a long time,so I would think he should know?
