oil filter adapter

Found an oil filter adapter, Ford part # C5TE-6881-B. It appears that the filter comes out the side, instead of hanging down, like the one on my 1966 390, bird.
Can anyone tell me what this was for ?

Our F-250 is plumbed that way. "T" in the engineering number may refer to "truck" but I would have to look it up.

Yes, for the "F" - Series trucks, late 60's & early 70's w/ the FE engine; to allow the oil filter to clear & provide better access from the frame cross member which passes under the engine.
