Neil Elford ~ 6T TBRD Best of Show

Neil Elford ~ 6T TBRD sent me a picture of his beautiful Monte Carlo Red 1960 Thunderbird Hardtop which won Best of Show at the 2015 Calgary Thunderbird Club Show & Shine. Neil's car was designated a Senior Car 14 years ago by the VTCI before he acquired it and still looks great. Congrats Neil.

Neil Elford ~ 6T TBRD Best of Show

John, thanks for posting that! That is one gorgeous red Squarebird! Please write Neil and tell him that I would LOVE to be able to consider his Tbird for the 2016 Squarebirds Calendar, if he is willing. I am always looking for red Tbirds to highlight for July and December! Tell him to check out the requirements for taking and sending me pix for consideration. He should find that in Anything Goes, I think is where I have it. Or in the Announcements section..

        Ray,

I will let him know about the calendar. He says he's not much into taking pictures but maybe he can get someone else to do it.

Ray what does " designated as a senior car " mean as I have not heard that term before? We are very proud to have Neil as a member of the Calgary Thunderbird Club and his 60 TBird which is stunning.

Neil Elford ~ 6T TBRD Best of Show

Dano, here is what the VTCI says about the Senior Division.

SENIOR DIVISION. Comprised of prior first place winners in the primary division at an international convention, this division is judged the same as primary (300 points) and eligible for best of show.

At each convention, the Thunderbirds in the senior division and the primary division earning the highest number of points of those trailered to the convention will receive a Best of Show (Trailered) award and the Thunderbird in these two divisions receiving the highest number of points among those cars driven to the convention will receive a Best of Show (Driven) award.

At international conventions, the best of show awards are identified as Seyfarth awards.

It is a prestigious thing to have your Tbird qualify for this Division. Here is the link to the breakdown of the various VTCI Judging Classes.

Ray thanks for the link. I thought that division was called something else? Thanks for clarifying and I will keep this judging list in my file for future reference.

Thanks John, I missed this post.

In keeping with the up-keep on this beauty.....
I've pulled the rear bumper, restored the brackets, ground every nut bolt and washer, and then striped, straightened, primed and painted the licence plate bracket. It now opens like it should rather than draped down look like an old blood hounds ear when I open it to put gas in her.

The bumper is in the shop getting re-chromed. It has suffered from 56 years of pitting from the exhaust and someone at one time put the jack under it to jack the car. Yip, it bent the lower section of chrome, slipped and gauged the finish. Now can you really see it, not if you asked my wife...... And in a week, you'll never know!

Anyway, bumper will be back in a week or so, just in time to re-install and bring her out for the Spring Thaw Car show in Calgary.

Concerning the Senior, it was awarded that in 2001, New Orleans. The Owner was Ron Richard. I still keep in contact with him. The car left Louisiana prior to hurricane Katrina, however he showed me a picture of the plaque he received for the Senior Award. The salt water did some damage.

                Again, thanks for the post.
