Carb linkage help needed

So the issue is compounded by the fact that the previous owner replaced the carb (Holley 4160) and the tranny, tranny is an identical year 1960, COM.

But I have no kick down although I can do it manually with the shifter, and at WOT the gas pedal is only about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way down, Secondaries open etc, but I'd love to get the kick down working. I've got the shop manual and have done the linkage adjustment as per the manual but that's not taking into account the weird gas pedal issue!

I would adjust the gas pedal first since the kick down linkage is directly related to how far the pedal travel is. Disconnect the linkage from the carburetor. Put the gas pedal all the way to the floor and put something there to hold it down. Then adjust the linkage rod so that the carburetor is wide open. Recheck at idle.

I forgot to mention here what happened. I made a thread in the other forum, but found the reason my pedal didn't go all the way down was there was a nut and bolt installed right where the linkage slides. I now have full pedal travel. When I did what you thought my transmission was a puke to get into reverse (shifter went but didn't go in and then when I finally got it in 1st slipped to the point it wouldn't drive. Checked against the factory setting according to the manual and I was way out. so back to the drawing board I guess.

Thought I would put a bow on this. Rejigged the linkage, starting from the factory settings with the guide pin in and worked from there. Transmission still slipped but not as bad. I then did a trial and error doing 1/2 turns on the kickdown linkage until I had the kickdown working, Finally had it up on a hoist and got a transmission guy to do a final tweak, he had to adjust and tighten it at the transmission and now it shifts solid, no more slippage and goes into every gear. Over the winter amongst other things I will replace the detent and rebuild the power steering which has a slight leak. Hardened seals I think.
