    '58-'60 Squarebird, GM&Hotrod Frames

As a result of what Wyldie told me in an email, I have found out about a company that builds new, modern frames for these ole Tbirds of ours. It is Scott's Hotrods-n-Customs. These frames also have rack & pinion on them. Not only do they build frames for the Squarebird, but also many other years and models of Fords, and many other makes, as you will see in their website. They are presently located in California, but are packing up and moving to Tennessee now. I have been speaking with Cameron regarding their products, and he will be sending me additional information and pictures. Eventually, I will probably be putting out some information regarding the company in our Advertisements Forum. If you look at the For Sale / Parts Wanted Forum, you will see Wyldie and others talking about going this route. One of our members has ordered a frame for his Squarebird. Here are two links, one to the main webpage, and one for the Squarebird. If you click on their Chassis link, you will find several different additional links, Applications, Other Chassis, Ford Chassis, and GM Chassis. Under each you will see what years and makes they make chassis for. These are American made frames, made by Americans.... Check out the links! More info to come.

How does that work since the original is unibody?

Henry, I gather that all the body panels will have to be unwelded, taken off the frame/chassis, unibody frame discarded, new frame put in place, and body panels welded to the new frame... I dunno, as I did not get that far into how they do it. One of our members is about to find out, and hopefully, he will be able to provide pix from the beginning... That would be glb52, who happens to be in Tennessee, where Scotts is moving to. If anyone else knows how this goes, please educate us... But what you get, is a modern, up to date chassis/frame, with R&P, and other goodies, all designed to go under the original body panels, I gather...Look at the few pix they show, and I hope to have more soon..

        Next to impossible.
        The body/frame is unitized (Spl/Chk)
Look @ the 60 Sunroof in that section with all the
        trick 4-link Rr/Susp & 4 whl disc.

Do all that and a 460 w/C6 and a Gearvenders
OD and call it a day.

On the Velocity Channel show Bitchin Rides they actually did a 62 Lincoln continental. Very intricate process and a very professional crew of metal men in place. They cross braced everything and then cut off the unibody floor and front and rear frames. Easy to say but the whole car customization took a year plus to do.
