    Help to identify rear spring part #

    Hello,

    I've come to this forum hoping to see if the wealth of Ford knowledge can help to identify what appears to be a 60's Ford rear spring. The spring appears to be an original part but from what?

    The spring is stamped:

    67 5 E

    3829686

    My understanding is:

    67 = Julian calendar date March 8
    5 = 1965
    E = plant that manufactured the spring

    3829686 has me stumped

    I have a picture but can not load to this site

    Steve,

    That is a strange number. All Ford leaf springs have a 5560 number; e.g. C7AZ-5560-A would be a 1967 Full Size Ford leaf spring. You can't post pictures directly without becomming a paid member. However you can post pictures using an external host. If you want you can email me the picture and I can post it for you. My email address is under my signature.

        Here's the picture of the leaf spring that Steve sent me if anyone can identify it. By the stamping it looks like Mopar to me.

            Could it be a leaf spring off a 2006 Ford Ranger?

              These came from a car that was "parked" in the mid 70's and recently put back on the road. The springs will be replaced due to sagging.

              This is more about trying to solve the mystery of what does that part number belong to.

              Definitely not an '06 Ranger. Mopar idea is interesting. Poked around a little today and see some of their 60's cars had similar shackles as Ford.

                Mopar uses seven digits for their part numbers whereas GM uses eight digits. Of course Ford uses a Prefix plus four or five digits. My money is on Mid 60's Mopar. They were known for putting date codes on their parts like on yours.

                    Ray,

                    These were pulled from a 66 Mustang. The correct stamped part number from the factory is C4ZA-5556 for that application. Re-manufactured springs today do not carry any stamped numbers. I don't know if they did 40 years ago?

                    More curious as to what these springs (part number) were designed for. I reached out to a friend who deals with Mopar's to see what he thinks.

                    A mystery for a rainy day in the Northeast. Thanks for your interest.

                      Steve, we have a number of companies who manufacture leaf springs listed in the Advertisements Forum. You might consider contacting them, giving them the pix and stampings you have on them. Maybe someone there can tell you what they came off of.
