1957 aluminum valve covers

What color are the valleys between the ribs of 1957 aluminum valve covers? They look black in photos but mine were painted turquoise, I assume by the previous owner.

There shouldn't be any paint between the ribs on the aluminum covers. The only paint was on the Bird.

Scott you are correct the previous owner must have customized the valve covers with turquoise as his / her choice
