Need help on the 65 Bird

I went to drive it this morning and the e brake won't release. I haven't looked at it yet, but any ideas would be very appreciated.

Also if anyone knows how the ashtray, cig lighter section comes out I would appriciate that also, thought it might be a good place to install one of those hidden audio deals.

The 1965 had a vacuum release parking brake.

The e-brake is NORMALLY released as soon as the shifter is put into any gear other than Park & Neutral.

If the hose has come off the vacuum canister or the diaphram inside it has ruptured it won't work.

But there a manual release on the e-brake mechanism just below the dash and in line with the pedal, from memory I thik you push it to release the e-brak.

Something somewhere is going to need a repaired though if it is not releasing when you put the car into gear..
