    Eric's 1960 T-Bird

    Hello everybody

since I will have a lot of information to ask while improving my 1960 coupe received in May 2017, I am opening a whole thread dedicated to it beside my "window mechanism opened last week : http://squarebirds.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=22898

To start it, being in the works to have the car ready for our next week trip, I would like to find a list of greasers on (under) the car. I located most of them I guess but I fear I may have missed some. So was wondering if anyone may have a chart/plan for that.

    Thank you
    Eric

There's one in the steering column under the hood.
      Don't forget that one

Are you talking about the steering connecting link per the Lube chart?

There should be a grease nipple on the steering tube itself. Also the steering gearbox needs grease, it will be probably be all dried up in there.

Eric, can I inquire into the age and general condition of the motor, as best you can tell?

I will explain my thinking after you reply . . .

Well the car has been restored to some extent and is in pretty good condition as far as I can tell.
As for the engine I really can not tell. I have a small leak from the crankshaft and that is about it.
Carb seems new, engine a bit dirty so it has not been rebuilt when the body has been, I think...
Ran it for a few hundred miles so far and run just fine. No heating, added no oil, ...

Do you mean grease on the gear box (it's an auto) or oil?
I checkled the level and it is fine. I may change the oil in there jus to make sure a bit later.

I mean the engine itself. Is it original? Been replaced? rebuilt?

Do you know anything about it?

If the answer is basically: No . . .no idea, consider this

The screen is a bit of a job to get to, loosen motor mounts, lift the motor enough to fit a 2" block in the motor mount between it and the engine, lower the jack undo all the pan bolts and lower the pan enough to reach the 2 bolts holding the tube with the screen and pull out.

a very small job compared to having the motor rebuilt because a rod went thru the block. Which is what happened to Alexander, but which I, among others, avoided.

The basic point is: if you don't know, do you roll the dice? or check things out?

It also offers the opportunity to put a new oil pump in.

that's a good point to check. Is that specific to this engine?
On my car I have an oil pressure gage. So it should be a good warning.

Today greased the car. Can not find any greaser on the steering shaft...
Neither on the main shaft which is almost brand new.

Hi Eric. No, i meant the steering gearbox, its the one the steering shaft connects to. Its supposed to be filled with grease.
New fluid in the automatic transmission is also a good thing to do when you don't know when it was changed. If you have the pan down, you can also change the inlet screen and check the adjustments of the front and rear band servo's.
