Default "It Will Be A Snowy Day In San Antonio"

It is a bit unusual to get much snow in San Antonio because we are considered to be in South Central Texas and pretty much out of the snow range. Over the many years, we sometimes get a slight dusting or a very light snow. However, I can tell you that it has snowed even further south of here, down in Cuero, in past years, which is just about 50 miles from the Gulf Coast. My son lives there and his wife just sent me pix of the snow they have there. Many years ago, friends from "Down Under" were visiting with us and they wanted to make a trip to the Gulf Coast. I told them that in the middle of Winter, that would not be the best time to go there, but they did. When they came back, they said it was so cold, that the fish were washing up off the Gulf onto the sand frozen!

My daughter lives north of my city in the Hill Country and she said it has been snowing heavily there since 3:30 this afternoon. It was still snowing heavily here, big fluffy snowflakes until about an hour or so ago.

The last big snow we had was back in 1985, and at that time Johnny Carson was the nightly host of the Tonight Show on NBC here. On his last show of the week, Friday night, January 11th, 1985, one of his guests asked him if he would ever get married again, after his recent divorce. He said, "It will be a snowy day in San Antonio, if I ever get married again!" On Monday night before he started his show, he said he wanted to comment on something that he had said last Friday night. He re-counted what he was asked about ever marrying again. He said, "Well, I want to tell you that San Antonio had 14 inches of snow last night!" (actually 13.5"). And he did get married again some time later... lol.. Here is a video of that record snowfall of 1985.. When I opened my front door this evening, I could hear and see kids playing in the snow, and for some of them, it had to be the first time they had ever seen snow in their lives!

Here are some pix of San Antonio and Cuero snowfall tonight...
The earlier ones here, then at 11pm, followed by several from Cuero, down close to the coast.

That's pretty bad news Ray, however we're expecting 37c 100 f on Tuesday & 39c 102c on Wednesday. We're having our Car Club Christmas Picnic this Sunday & we're quite fortunate with the weather being 29c 84f. Stay warm.

Chris....From OZ.

Hi Chris, I hope all this goes away before tomorrow, as we are having our annual Tbird Club Christmas Party also! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I see that Dave has posted our Christmas pix on the Home Page. Also the new link on ordering 2018 Squarebirds Calendars too!

Cool

Ray yes that is unusual for snow there, hopefully it clears up for your Christmas party tomorrow. Here in Calgary it is unusually warm at 50 degrees with no snow. There is lots of snow in the mountains but forecast looks like temps above average.

Our daughter and family live in San Antonio! Sure was exciting last night for the kids. Our grand daughter is in kindergarten but their dog was afraid of the falling snow. Wasn't long though and everyone soon was having fun!!

Wow! Who would have expected snow in that part of Texas!
Cool pics though.
Whereas two days ago here in NZ I was sweating copiously on my Harley with the dash thermometer constantly hovering between 90F and 100F during my three day trip.
It's a topsy-turvy world we live in...

Default "It Will Be A Snowy Day In San Antonio"

This morning, as it warms up slightly, the snow is nearly gone, and the streets are clear. We did not have the wet snow turn into ice. So, unless we get more snow tonight, it looks like tomorrow will be a clear day and will not effect our Tbird Club Christmas Party! Joe, I bet your family had a great time enjoying the snow. Many, many children here have never seen snow before. There were schools all across the city where the students and the staff were outside in the snow having snowball fights, and building snowmen! There are so many people here now who were not born in 1985, or have moved here from snowless areas of the country, that snow was totally unknown to them except in pictures. I loved the story about the dog being afraid of the snow!
