    Loose door latch posts

I've tried two different sources for door posts- this last set directly from Dennis Carpenter. The end of the post moves laterally more that 1/8", and as a result, both doors have to be slammed shut, and stick when closed. Does anyone make a good set of these, or do I have to resort to modifying these by welding the post to the base plate?

I was under the impression that they were solid & not loose.
Did you by any chance change the door rubbers with new ones?
If not, I guess you might have to weld them from the back.

They are not supposed to be loose. The center section is a steel-rubber-steel sandwhich to give the closing a damped feel to it. I'm afraid if I weld it I'll burn the rubber.

That's not possible, since the joint between the plate and post is covered by the second, thin, layer of steel. I'm thinking of doing it from the back. I just wanted to know if anyone else has done this before attempting.

Joe at Classic Metal in Mocksville MIG welded a new set for me. I had to do a little cutting of shims and grinding of welds to make them fit, but the doors are now closing solid THUNK.
