Turn signal cancelling

Are the turn signals suppost to cancel on their own after making a turn? I red something about a turn cancelling cam, but on my bird i have to cancel them manually.

There could be several things that would cause the turn signals not to cancel:
1. The steering column could be out of adjustment and not allow the cancelling sleeve on the steering wheel to make contact with the T/S switch. Does your horn work? The entire steering column can be adjusted toward or away from the driver by loosening 2 screws under the dash.
2. The turn signal switch could have a broken spring. See picture. Does the T/S switch click into position when you set it?
3. The steering wheel may have been changed and the sleeve required to cancel the turn signals may have been left off. Again this assumes you still have the factory steering wheel. The cancelling sleeve is pressed on to the backside of the steering wheel. Note in picture.

Thanks for the answers guys. My horn is not working, since the horn ring is removed (is broken). I will need to check a parts diagram for what is missing, because the cancelling cam is not there and the parts to mount the horn ring are also not there.

The steering column can be adjusted forward and aft? Telescopic movement? What 2 screws are these? I still contact the steering wheel even after I R&R'd the seat to the "optional" 4 holes.

There is only an adjustment of the whole steering column forward/aft, which seems to be used to adjust the horn contact in the steering wheel. There is no adjustment for tall people. I have the same problem with my 1.97m (6 ft 7")

I took one apart a few weeks ago/Months, I dont remember. I think I still have every thing except the snap ring and the Horn ring. Let me know if ya need it

I slid that mast jacket up.
They cancel now, but still no horn.
The T/sigs never worked right in that car
since day one. For years, my dad had to hold the
lever down so the left side would even work.

As far as the horn, I'm thinking an air horn with
a remote button (Maybe where the washer pump
switch is. Something else that never worked from
day one.)

I wonder about a train horn. That would be good
for that car. Scare the ____ out of people. Heh heh.

Use a tester and check to see if your horns work in the first place. Adding a 1961-63 electric washer pump is easy. Adding the correct hoses and nozzles if needed can be more challenging than adding a pump.

Thanks for the pictures Nyles, that helps for sure. I had no idea what kind of parts should be there. Unfortunately I'm seeing that I miss quite some parts.
