    Dare County, North Carolina

..Dave said: haven't you heard of Virginia Dare, Dare County, in a post few weeks back. Nope I haven't, (i should of in history) So to day i go suffering on the web. Find Virginia Dare. Wow a Legend.
They wrote books, poems , songs, and Story's about her. One had Indian Chief, Witch Doc., Magic Fountain, Silver Arrow, all in a love story. A bunch of story's of lost Colonists, lots of true History. 1587 Aug. 18 Eleanor brought Virginia Dare in to the New World.
and I like the one about not getting lost they just went North to make cookies.

    ........

    .....................................Nice Tree Dave.

Randy, you're a hoot. Yep, that's my family. Virginia Dare was also the first English girl and the first Christian born in America. Her daddy was Ananias Dare, First Mate of Sir Walter Raleigh. He fell in love with the Gov's daughter. Dare boys know how to pick beautiful women of distinction.

Back then, the area was the Colony of Virginia. Today, it is in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Dare County includes Kitty Hawk where the Wright brothers attained 'first flight' in a self propelled aircraft.

Dare cookies are a Canadian company located in Kitchner, ON. I love them. Back in the 1960's, my dad walked into the Dare cookie corporate office and announced his name to the receptionist. Dad wanted to meet 'Mr. Dare,' owner of the Dare company. They promptly told dad that there was NO Dare, that the name was some abbreviation for several founders. Now, how true that is remains to be seen but that was the story back then. Now I see they claim Charles H. Doerr started the company in 1892. (The name Doerr is German but ours is English.) I don't know of any Dare family members in Canada, but being a Dominion of the Crown, I would not be surprised if there are a few.

My family is of the belief (through family lore) that Virginia Dare survived and had at least one child with the Indian Chief who 'captured' her when the settlement was sacked. We also believe she went north into what is now the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area. You can imagine that most settlers and farmers back in the 1500's didn't read or write. Neither did many mariners or Indians. For that reason, written history failed so our 'claims' cannot be proven. Regardless, our family still exists which is proof enough for me. - Dave

There is a way to give credence to that lore, Dave. Do a DNA test on yourself to verify ancestry. My wife is planning on doing one to verify her ancestry, which is supposedly part Russian, Lithuanian, Polish.

The 23andMe Health + Ancestry kit offers DNA testing with 150+ personalized genetic reports including actionable health insights, ancestry, traits and more.

Steve, that's a wonderful idea and it would certainly put my ancestry in the correct region of the world.

Do you happen to have any DNA from Virginia Dare for comparison? Having mine doesn't mean much if we don't have hers to compare it with.

My ancestry is English and Welch. My family ancestors are named:
        Dare (all the boys)
Some of the girls' nee names are:
        Lloyd (my middle name)
Churchill (dad's middle name & GG Grandfather's mother's name. Yes, Winnie is a cousin on the Spencer side.)
        Vane (grandfather's first name)
        Warry (grandfather's middle name)
        Thomas
        ...and many more. - Dave

That's not how it works. They compare yours with their database of known tribes.
