Horn sound

Got my horn working, but wonder how the original horns where sounding. Is there any sound clip available with the sound of the original horns?
Is the original brand Sparton?

The sound is like a "get the heck outa my way" type of a horn sound. Not the "beep beep" of today's cars....

I think i will get a pair of original horns from Carl. It makes now noise, but it doesn´t sound as i think it should.
What was the reason that the horns where re-positioned from the engine bay to the wheel bay área?

I am being lazy here and not doing any research . . . however
I think that the two horns each have a distinctive and different frequency. These two frequencies complement each other in some carefully designed way (you must bear in mind that Prius' had not been invented yet, so it could not have been that, despite the desires of some members . . . )

Factory manual only says "one has a high pitched tone ;the other has a low pitched tone". (8-10 of '58 manual)

If you really want to know, I can record mine, do a sound analysis, and see what frequencies emerge with some software. Frank, I could send you a .WAV file if you like (or about any format you like) Easy to play on any computer.

One consideration might be: are there two different part numbers for the two horns? or are they adjusted in substantially different manners?

I also note they draw 9-10 amps. If you hooked up that kind of equipment to a modern car, not only would the wiring all melt but the steering wheel might as well.

Horns can be used singly, but are often arranged in pairs to produce an interval consisting of two notes, sounded together; although this only increases the sound output by 3 decibels, the use of two differing frequencies with their beat frequencies and missing fundamental is more perceptible than the use of two horns of identical frequency, particularly in an environment with a high ambient noise level. Typical frequencies of a pair of horns of this design are 500 Hz and 405–420 Hz (approximately B4 and G♯4, minor third).

Horn Pitch

For 1960 they made a "HI" & "LOW" horn. Must be a different snail scroll for pitch...See : HAB-60-"HI" cast in scroll. Sorry not the best pic..

Thanks for the offer John. I will be ordering the original horns from Carl. According the manual the 58 horns are behind the park lights in the wheel bay area. Are the horns for the 60 in the engine bay? Seems to be a better place, less water/dirt/road debris.

The horns on my car stopped working and I spent quite a bit of time trying to get them back in working order. I finally gave up and bought a pair of Wolo "extra loud" horns. They are 116 db and either 410 or 510 Hz. Although I'm tone deaf they sound just like the old ones. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0206&ppt=C0107

The 1960 horns are inside the engine bay on the front of the inner fender. (If you have A/C, you would remove the horns to R&I your PS pump if that went bad. That's just an idea of where these are located.) We need a photo.

About every 3rd car is one of those POS's around here.
But, when they see Big Tate comin' in the mirr . . .
They get outta the way
Must be that big chrome "Gonna get ya" grin!!!
