    My motor numbers

My heads read: C8AEH. Does that mean 1968? Does the H mean anything? I only see four characters discussed on the forum. Thanks.

    My motor numbers

Here is the breakdown for this.

    C8AEH - C=Decade=1960's, 8=1968, AEH=A=Ford, E=Engine Engineering, H=?

As you can see C=the Decade, in this case, the 1960's. 8=the Year, 1968. A=Ford (Full Sized) (S would have indicated a Tbird from 1958 up...). E=Engine Engineering. H=? Normally, a Ford part number looks like this C8AE-6000-A. The 6000 tells you it is an Engine part, and the A tells you it is the first time the part was made. A B, C, D, etc, gives you the 2nd, or 3rd or 4th revision, etc... Here is a website that explains it.

Well well. I always wondered what engine that is. All I knew was 'obviously not original'. I was just doing a set of plugs and I remembered reading about those numbers here on the forum. I guess I now know more than I ever did. BTW What displacements did Ford cars have in '68?

I read the website you suggested. Thanks. I'm going to look into that block number on the front corner. See what kind of mixture I have. Thanks again. Mike S

Mike, I hope the website I sent you gave you a lot more information. As for your question regarding displacements for the 1968, someone else who knows that will have to give you the answer.

Here is another website that will tell you a lot about your 1960 Squarebird.

It's off subject but this breaks my heart:

              72-77 460 Ford, Mercury
              Bore: 4.362" Stoke: 3.85"
              hp: 212 @ 4400rpm
              torque: 342 @ 2800rpm
              Comp. Ratio: 8.5:1
              Carburetor: 4v Motorcraft 4300

We get more HP than that from an engine with 100 cu inches LESS. It's no wonder Ford stopped this lunacy.

Ho-Lee-Cow. Very interesting website. Thanks. I've got the fever now. Now I wanna find my block number. See what the rebuilder put together.
I never met the guy I bought it from so I never knew much about it. It was on a lot in CA on consignment. My wife had a white one when we got married in '64. So I made an offer and the lot guy said he didn't think the owner would take it. We came home and they called and said he took it! Our relatives went over and bought it until we came out to drive it back to IN.
                I'm curious now. Thanks again.
