A '59 Tbird Headed For The Trash Heap...

Tom Cangialosi- who is still restoring Alexander's Buick, just sent me this, in hopes that someone can rescue this '59 Tbird and keep it from going to the trash heap or being scrapped and crushed... Hopefully, someone can get in contact with the author and find out more about this. This article below just came out in this publication, so apparently, this Tbird is still sitting there waiting to be destroyed... or saved....

I am assuming this Tbird is located in Eugene, Oregon, but I am not sure. Perhaps author Paul Niedermeyer can confirm this. Website: http://www.curbsideclassic.com

Here is additional information. This link has a lot of pix of the car in it. If anyone gets more information regarding it, please post it here...

Looks like a pretty solid "58" in the one set of photos. I'm not in a place where I'm terribly willing to spend alot of money on one, but I could sure haul my car trailer up to Eugene to help remove it from the trash pile.

    Cheers

A '59 Tbird Headed For The Trash Heap...

Here is what I have been able to find out so far. Paul Niedermeyer IS located in Eugene, Oregon and is the Founder, Editor and Executive Editor of Curb Side Classic. I have emailed him explaining that there is an interest in rescuing this '59 Tbird from the Trash Heap or crusher, by members of our Forum. I have googled his contact information in the White Pages and came up with a phone number. I have called it and left a message. I hope it is the right person. I have asked for additional information regarding the owner of this Tbird, and contact information for him. I will let ya'll know what I find out. As an aside, this is exactly the '59 Squarebird that I was looking for in 2007 when I could not find one... Turquoise body, white top... The "bloodhound" has his nose to the trail.....

I am in contact with Paul Niedermeyer, in Eugene, Oregon. He is the founder, editor and author of that website who did the report regarding this '59 Tbird. He said that he will try and locate the owner of it, who might live in that home next to the car. He said the car has been sitting there for quite a few years, and the trash has become piled up around it. He also said that he doubts it is headed to the crusher, but he will see if he can make contact with the owner and find out more about it and let me know.

A '59 Tbird Headed For The Trash Heap...

Good news! Here is a follow up email I just got from Paul regarding this '59 Squarebird in Eugene, Oregon..

"I had an errand to run and dropped by there. Good timing... the owner was just there in the parking lot. Turns out he's the owner of the property, along with some others. That junk is just there temporarily, after cleaning up some place.

Anyway, he's had it for some 20 years but is willing to consider selling it as he doesn't really expect to ever get to it. Here's his name and number: Jerry Nelson 541-606-5566. Good luck; and do let me know if a sale happens. I would do a story on it. Paul"

So there ya go, Rusty! Or anyone else who want to take a crack at this. You have some pictures to look at that should give you some idea of its condition. I have no idea what he might ask for it. Someone will have to call and find out. Let us know what he says, please.

A '59 Tbird Headed For The Trash Heap...

I just had a long talk with Jerry Nelson, who owns the Tbird. He said that it has been sitting there in that location for about 5 years or so. The car was running the last time he kicked it over last year. It has a 352, and that engine bay looks pretty clean. It has no AC, and manual windows. It will certainly need cleaned up, and a paint job. The interior looks pretty good from what I can see of it. It seems to be pretty much rust free, except for a small area by the front wheel wells. He said he does not know how many owners it has had, though he bought it about 20 something years ago. He said he thinks the odometer has 63,000 miles on it. He is considering selling it, but has not put a price to it yet. I suggested that he look on the internet and see what other '59's in that condition are selling for. I asked him to let me know when he decides what he wants to ask for it and I can let ya'll know. Right at the moment, he has some other irons in the fire that he needs to take care of. One thing for sure is that he said it is not going to be trashed or crunched. He just has not had the time to work with it and bring it back to good working condition again. Rather than let it continue to sit there in the elements, he agreed that it would be good to get it to someone who would give it the TLC it needs, and back in great running condition again.
