    A '57 Tbird With A Rumble Seat!

For the last few days, I have been helping a local couple find their dream Tbird, a red or white '57 D Code, with red/white interior, auto tranny and AC. In looking for that '57 red Tbird, one of our local club members told me about this. Look at these pix of what I found. I have NEVER seen a Tbird with a rumble seat. It is called "The Bird Nest". Sam, who used to live in California said Prestige Thunderbird serviced his Tbird, and tells me that 2-5 of these cars were made. Prestige Thunderbird told me that the company who was making these mods was in Burbank. I don't think they are in business anymore. I would imagine it would be very difficult to get in and out of without scratching the paint. Unless it was meant for children who could be lifted in and out of, to sit in during parades. Best Regards, Ray

    A '57 Tbird With A Rumble Seat!

Here is what one person said about this.
"WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK" ! Owner had a "birds nest" assembly that he wanted me to install on it. Here are results:
    1. Unique...........but...........no way to seal it from water.
    2. Small opening that only a child could fit in.
    3. Although it had a lock, due to it's design, it did rattle and chip paint as you drove or open and closed.
    4. Seat belts wouldn't help as if rear ended (even in parade), occupants backs were not protected.
    5. Only trunk floor between gas tank and birds nest.
    6. No room for anything else in trunk including spare tire
    7. No evidence of factory ever offering it as option. May have been a aftermarket dealer option.
    8. Don't remember the deck lid having hinges or springs.
    9. Current DOT and "ambulance chasers" would have a field day with this !
Cute idea but wouldn't spend the time or money to own one.

And now we know why they weren't popular!!

I have seen one in a show many years ago - looked just OK to me but the lid was up showing the seat and it did have signs of wear or chips around the edges.
