These models were made by AMT in 1959. They were made of plastic in 1/25 scale. They had a friction motor in a metal chassis driving the front wheels. The plastic that the 1958 to 1960 Thunderbird AMT models were made of was very prone to warping. It is rare to find a unwarped model. Guidebooks for these models state that slight warping is expected for the listed value prices. Unwarped models command a premium. The models were painted in factory paint colors and were available in probably all the factory color combinations.

Models kits by AMT of the same vintage had detailed plastic chassis. To see an image of such a chassis click here. The 1961 Thunderbird was initially planned as a front wheel drive car. Could this have the inspiration for this concept?
